Frient SMSZB-120 zigbee 3.0 smoke detector review

We expect this type of article to be simple and reliable in order to get us out of a bad situation. In the image a small presentation of the Frient SMSZB-120, on the front side the module is equipped with a large alarm operation test button, if you click on it a red light will flicker like this a resounding sound. What is hidden under the hood of SMSZB-120

This product was released in 2020 which explains the integration of a Zigbee CC2530 chip, it has the disadvantage of being immense but it has the advantage of being hackable, well you will tell me it remains a product that is difficult to divert. Inclusion in ZHA

The inclusion is done without difficulty in ZHA under Home Assistant, but no commands come up despite several attempts, the Frient SMSZB-120 remains unusable in this configuration.

After an attempt at reconfiguration the commands still do not come up, contrary to what Blackadder announces, the module does not work in ZHA

Inclusion in Zigbee2mqtt

As is often the case and so much the better, the integration of Frient SMSZB-120 into Z2M was very easy.

All the information comes back perfectly, you will need to leave a few seconds for the synchronization of the orders. In addition, between pressing a command and the action, one or two seconds can pass.

Conclusion

The Frient Smoke sensor module SMSZB-120 is of very good quality, the functionalities are there however it remains expensive compared to a Xiaomi Honeywell module or a Heiman detector. And this for the same operating characteristics. However, if aesthetics are important to you then this module is made for you!
